There are two easy buttons on the left hand side above the ear. One power button and one record/pause button. You don't have to hold the buttons down for 1-2 seconds, just a quick push and the green power indicator will flash on to constant status along with one blink from the blue record indicator which will then turn off. Push the record button and you will see the same blue flashing indicator light out of your left peripheral vision to assure you are in record mode.
